Dark Hero Returns: Part 5 "The Depression"


Shadow arrived back at Club Rouge and slumped on the staircase whilst looking down at the floor. He lifted his head slightly and looked around him, viewing her gym and living room as he started having flashbacks of his best moments with her.

He tried to resist giving in, but his emotion got the better of him as he lowered his head in deep despair. Shadow thought he would never have to feel this pain again, that he had almost forgotten what it felt like.

He strolled into Rouge's bedroom to find pictures of her friends and newspaper articles, framed and hung all around the room. There were many articles about her thefts:

"Mysterious Thief Strikes Again!",
"Most Valuable Jewel Stolen!",
"Babelicious Bat Bails Out Of Prison"

Shadow scoffed as he read the newspapers, until he spotted one particular article which read:

"Black Arms Destroyed By Heroic Hedgehog".

He realised it was when he destroyed the Black Comet, along with Black Doom and his army. Shadow was deep in thought, only thinking why she would have this particular newspaper hung up in her room.

He was about to leave when he noticed a photograph resting on her desk.

He held it in his hands, to find that it was a picture of him and Rouge last Christmas, when she was trying to get him to smile, but he just folded his arms and looked away, that was, until Rouge's arm snaked around his waist and pulled him towards her. He remembered how shocked and slightly embarassed he was to react to her actions, so he simply looked at her in bafflement.

Shadow just managed a half- smile, as he stared at the picture, but the pain was so unbearable, that a single tear ran down his cheek as he placed the photo back on the desk.

He had one last glance at the picture, and then he left the room.

When Shadow entered the main room, he felt violent vibrations and heard faint screaming in the distance. He quickly dried his eyes and ran towards the nearest window. The atmosphere was filled with dust, from the collapsing buildings, that Shadow squinted. As he looked, several giant robots emerged from the dust, rampaging the city, destroying building after building, tearing up the roads and throwing cars at fleeing citizens.


"Doctor" Shadow growled.

Suddenly a huge blimp appeared in the sky, hovering over the city.

"Oh, ho, ho, see this is what happens when you meddle in someone else's business!" Dr.Eggman chuckled on the microphone
"Now, you will surrender to me, and your city will not be destroyed" he said sharply, before chuckling again.


Suddenly Shadow's wrist device started buzzing.

"Shadow, Eggman's robots are destroying the city, you must meet up with Sonic and the others and destroy them, but do not aboard that blimp, it could be a trap, I repeat, do not aboard th-" .

Shadow cut them off before the President could finish his sentence. His blood began to boil as he scowled at the blimp, all he could think about was revenge, and nothing was going to hold him back.

Shadow headed for Rouge's basement and stomped down the staircase, each step echoeing as he proceeded. There was only a small amount of light left in the room from the lightbulb that hung from the ceiling, which was flickering.

Shadow entered the codes, and a huge room appeared which contained a large range of weapons which were given to her by G.U.N. He picked out the biggest gun he could find and loaded it with bullets.

"Don't think I'm not through with you yet, Doctor! I will have my vengeance!" Shadow growled as he cocked his gun.
